What is a java file and how do I open a java file?
JAVA extension files contain source code written in the Java programming language. It uses an object-oriented approach where structured data types, called classes, are used to instantiate objects at runtime. JAVA source code files are compiled into CLASS files using a Java compiler. A CLASS file contains bytecode that can be executed by the Java Virtual Machine, which can be downloaded for every major operating system, including Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. One design goal of Java is it's portability, which means that programs written for the Java platform run similarly on any combination of hardware and operating system with appropriate runtime support. The huge benefit of using bytecode is porting. However, the overhead of interpretation means that interpreted programs almost always will run more slowly than programs compiled to native executables. JIT compilers were introduced from an early stage that compile bytecodes to machine code during runtime. Java is platform independent. .JAvA files can be opened with a simple text editor such as NotePad or WordPad.
