What is an url file and how do I open an url file?
URL is a shortcut file referenced by web browsers, containing information for a web URL. URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. A URL uniquely describes how to access a specific online resource or piece of information. It also sometimes contains a reference to the favicon.ico icon file, which is displayed as the icon for the shortcut file. URL files open an Internet location, such as a web address, in a default browser. Generally, this file extension won't show up even if showing file extensions is the default setting on the system. A number of different browsers will attempt to capture this file extensions depending on which browser is set as your system default. Usually the shortcut location can be viewed by opening the file in a text editor such as Microsoft Notepad or Apple TextEdit.
