What is a cob file and how do I open a cob file?
COB is a source code file written in COBOL created in 1959, an older programming language used for developing business, finance, and administrative applications; still used by many enterprise business applications. COBOL is an acronym for common business-oriented language is a compiled English-like computer programming language designed for business use. It is imperative, procedural and, since 2002, object-oriented. COBOL is primarily used in business, finance, and administrative systems for companies and governments. In 1997, Gartner Group estimated that there were a total of 200 billion lines of COBOL in existence which ran 80% of all business programs. COBOL has an English-like syntax in order for it to be a self-documenting and highly readable computer language. Never the less, COBOL is verbose and uses over 300 reserved words. In the early 1990s the decision was made to add object-orientation in the next full revision of COBOL.
