What is a lzma file and how do I open a lzma file?
An LZMA compressed file is stored in the LZMA format and is integrated with compression specifications implemented by the LZMA algorithm. Also known as the Lempel-Ziv-Markov chain algorithm, these LZMA compressed files are also implemented with encoding specifications and affixed with the .lzma extension to embed better compression ratios into these LZMA files compared to some file compression algorithms. Files and folders compressed in the LZMA format are reduced in size, promoting more efficient ways to distribute these files and folders through the Internet or via a wide variety of media types like CDs, DVDs and other external data storage devices, such as USB flash drives, memory cards and external hard disks. Quicker decompression is also implemented into the LZMA format. Required by certain LZMA files is the integration of the LZMA SDK (Software Development Kit) for computers running on Microsoft Windows-based systems. In Mac platforms, some LZMA files are encoded with particular standards that require the implementation of the LZMA Utils application into these Mac systems. These LZMA compressed files are affixed with the .lzma extension.
