What is a bwf file and how do I open a bwf file?
The BWF file extension is a data format known as Broadcast Wave File. BWF files are audio files that contain extra information, such as timestamps and other metadata, contained in the header. Extra information includes the broadcast extension. These are information title, origination, date, and time of the audio content. They can contain two specified types of audio data, Linear PCM and MPEG coded. These files were developed by the European Broadcasting Union as a successor to WAV in 1997. They were created for seamless exchange of audio material between different broadcast environments and equipment based on different computer platforms. These files are used for non-linear digital recording of motion picture, radio and television production. These files do not require a special player for playback and used the WAV file extension. Files in BWF format can be opened with Adobe Audition CS6, Avid Pro Tools, and Cakewalk SONAR in Mac Os and Microsoft Windows based platforms.
