What is a cmap file and how do I open a cmap file?
Concept mapping applications provide users with efficient features for creating visual concept maps or mind maps, and an example of a file format used by a particular concept mapping software is the CMAP format. Files in this format are appended with the .cmap extension and are called CmapTools concept map files. Developed by IHMC to be used as project output files of the CmapTools software (also developed by IHMC), the content of these CMAP files include visual diagrams or charts, digital objects or images and text integrated with formatting and page layout attributes entered and embedded by the author of the CMAP file. This means when a user opens and views the content of a CMAP file using the CmapTools software, this application references the data stored in that CMAP file to display it for the user to see or to modify using the features integrated into the software. Since the digital objects, text and formatting attributes integrated by a user into a CMAP project are directly loaded unto the application by the software upon opening the CMAP file, users can share these CMAP files and perform brainstorming activities with the CmapTools program.
