The software known as File Expander Engine is a software developed by Forensic Innovations used to locate files that are hidden in the computer. The files are usually stored in a FIEngine.fid folder and it can be extracted with the use of the said software. 

It is used by the Microsoft Indexing service wherein it is used as a system file. This software creates indexes and these indexes are responsible for making quick and easy searches.
