What is a tex file and how do I open a tex file?
Files in the .tex format are output text documents created using the LaTeX software, a word processing application. These output text documents can also be saved in the LTX extension. Files with the STY extension are on the other hand text documents containing definitions of specific page layout and text formatting elements integrated into the content of associated LTX or TEX files. Other users collaborating on the further improvement or development of a document presentation with the use of an LTX or TEX file can access the definitions stored in these STY files and can even leave their comments for others to see. To leave a comment in an STY file so other users can improve the styling attributes integrated into the content of the TEX or LTX documents being worked on as a group project, Texmaker can be used (by both Mac, Linus and Microsoft Windows users since this word processing application has versions for all three platforms) to open the STY file and write the percent symbol followed by their comments below the corresponding style definitions (these style definitions start with a backslash). There are other applications that can be used to open and view TEX or LTX files.
